Frustrations with not being able turn right from Cambridge Avenue in Fairy Meadow may soon be eased.
Community consultation is being sought regarding signal upgrades on the Princes Highway at the Daisy Street and Cambridge Avenue areas, along with right turn bans at Guest Avenue.
According to a letter from Wollongong City Council, the changes are based upon the limited turn options and crash history in the area, with council identifying the need for an upgrade of the intersection of the Princes Highway with Daisy Street and Cambridge Avenue.
The T-intersection of Guest Avenue and the Princes Highway in Fairy Meadow is currently the only available intersection to travel southbound from Guest and Cambridge Avenues, as the intersection of Cambridge Avenue is left turn only.
The proposed intersection design is a dog-leg traffic signal upgrade, which will permit drivers to turn right into or out of Cambridge Avenue, which is located near the One Agency JD Property Agents offices.
As part of the project, it is also proposed to install No Right Turn signs at the T-intersection of Guest Avenue and Princes Highway in conjunction with the traffic signal intersection upgrade.
This proposal will include bus stop relocations, and some conversion of on-street parking to “No Stopping” or a bus zone near the signalised intersection.
All going to plan, the design of this project is scheduled to occur during the 2025/26 financial year.
Council is now seeking input from the community on the proposal.
